Regarding House Bill 24-1174, which took effect July 1, 2025: We were verified in Douglas County, and our instruction at the Concealed Carry Academy of Colorado is accepted for concealed carry classes in ALL Colorado counties. Instructors only get verified by one county; therefore, they do not show on other counties' lists of verified instructors. However, once verified in any county, instructors are recognized across the entire state. Counties are only listing the instructors they verified themselves, which is creating confusion. In short, when a county receives a certificate from an instructor not verified in their county, they simply check with the county that verified the instructor to confirm their status.
Our basic handgun concealed carry class is perfect for both semi-auto pistols and revolvers, making it one of the most comprehensive firearm safety courses available. Our firearms instructors possess extensive police and military backgrounds, providing a wealth of knowledge on legal concerns, such as what to do if you’re contacted by the police while armed, or if you use deadly force in self-defense. Additionally, our police officers have been full-time police instructors with extensive teaching experience, ensuring quality education in our CCW and pistol permit training.
Regarding permit recertifications: The new bill requires two hours of range time with a shooting qualification. This presents two challenges for us: Firstly, conducting a two-hour class is not feasible for us. Secondly, we have found that we cover far more than other permit courses, and many participants come to us with a gross overestimation of their abilities. Sadly, they have not been taught what we consider the basics. Therefore, we are offering this: if participants attend our Level 1 handgun/permit class to recertify, they can do so at a $50 discount ($200), and they will complete the class in around 5.5 hours. In Level 1, we cover marksmanship drills, combat reloads, type 1 and 2 malfunctions, one-handed shooting, and close quarters shooting.
